BAPTIZING, BAPTISM!

Matthew 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

[therefore ...]

In view of My authority, I commission you with full power of attorney to carry on the work that I have started (note, John 16:23 below!).

Great Commission Fourfold:

1. Go. This applies to all believers, not only preachers. The invitation to salvation is for all alike, so why should not the responsibility of getting the invitation to others be for all alike? We have the same rights, privileges, promises, and provision for equipment for service, so all should help in every possible way to evangelize the world according to our ability and direction from God. There is no excuse for millions of church members leaving this work to only a few who seek to obey the Great Commission.

2. Teach (Greek:  matheteuo (GSN-3100), to make disciples, enroll as a learner or pupil).  Used only here and in Matthew 13:52; Matthew 27:57; Acts 14:21. Not the ordinary word for teaching, as in point 4 below.

3. Baptize all disciples. See Matthew 3:6 and Acts 8:38.

4. Teaching (Greek: didasko (GSN-1321), give instruction). It is translated "teach" 93 times. The idea here is more that of instructing than of enrolling disciples to be taught.

[in the name of]

This means "by the authority of."  Here it means by the authority of all three persons and not by the authority of Jesus only. He is the one authorizing us to recognize the others as well as Himself. This will help us to understand Acts 2:38; Acts 8:16; Acts 10:48; Acts 19:5.  It is by the authority of Jesus Christ that we baptize at all, and it is by His authority that we baptize in the name of (by the authority of) all three persons.

[Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost]

Some argue that these are not names, but the dictionary says that the word name is "any word" or "title" by which any person or thing is known.  This is not just any Father, any Son, or any Holy Ghost, but it is the Father of Jesus Christ, and the Son of the Father, and the Holy Ghost, the third person of the Divine Trinity.  Any Bible reader would know who these three persons are if mentioned by these names in any scripture

John 16:23  And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

[in that day]

In the day of My going back to the Father you shall ask Me nothing, but you shall ask the Father in My name (John 14:1-3,12,19-20; John 16:5,10,16,23-27).

[Whatsoever ye shall ask]

Again assuring no limitations to what believers may ask and receive within the bounds of the promises.

[in my name]

This repeats the doctrine of the Christian's power of attorney, and teaches agency in divine affairs.  Legally, any person capable of free and intelligent action may act as an agent.  A lunatic, imbecile, an infant, or anyone incapable of free and intelligent action cannot act as an agent.  The power of attorney means the legal and written authority to transact business for another.  One may be a general agent to represent another in all of his business, or a special agent who is authorized to do some specific work, or transact some special business.  The agent can act with all authority within the bounds of the legal authorization as much as the one who gave him this authority.  All believers have full, legal, redemptive, gospel, blood-bought, promised, and family rights to use the name of Jesus in:

1.   Salvation (Matthew 1:21; Acts 4:12)

2.   Baptism (Matthew 28:19; Acts 8:16)

3.   Fellowship (Matthew 18:5; Luke 9:48)

4.   Worship (Matthew 18:20; 2 Cor. 1:10)

5.   Good deeds (Mark 9:41)

6.   Combat (Mark 16:17; Luke 10:17)

7.   Preaching (Luke 24:47; Acts 8:12)

8.   Healing (Mark 16:18; Acts 3:6, 16; James 5:14-16)

9.   Judgment (1 Cor. 5:1-5; Acts 13:6-11; 2 Thes. 3:6)

10. Prayer (John 14:13-15; John 15:16; John 16:23-26)

11. Praise (Ephes. 5:20; Hebrews 13:15)

12. All things (Col. 3:17)

13. Receiving the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13; Luke 24:49; John 7:37-39; John 14:26; Acts 1:4-8)

14. Doing the works of Christ (Mark 16:17-20; John 14:12-15).

Free, unlimited, and unqualified use of His name is the church's deposit. Checks will be honored in the amount signed with a steady and unwavering hand (James 1:5-8).

Matthew 3:6  And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

Acts 8:38  And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

[baptized]

Greek: baptizo (GSN-907), from bapto (GSN-911), to dip (Luke 16:24; Rev. 19:13; John 13:26); to overwhelm with suffering (Matthew 20:22-23; Luke 12:50); to bury into (Romans 6:3-7; Col. 2:12), regardless of the element used.  See Acts 8:38.

Seven Baptisms in Scripture:

1. John's baptism in water (Matthew 3; Mark 1; Luke 3; Luke 7:29-30; John 1:31-33; John 3:23-26; John 10:40; Acts 1:5; Acts 11:16; Acts 19:3)

2. Christ's baptism in water (John 3:22; John 4:1-2)

3. Baptism in suffering (Luke 12:50)

4. Baptism in the cloud and in the sea (1 Cor. 10:2)

5. Christian baptism in water (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38-41; Acts 8:12-16,36-38; Acts 9:18; Acts 10:47-48; Acts 16:15,33; Acts 18:8; Acts 19:5; Acts 22:16; 1 Cor. 1:13-17; 1 Peter 3:21)

6. Baptism into Christ and into His body (Romans 6:3-7; 1 Cor. 12:13; Galatians 3:27; Col. 2:12)

7. Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11,14; Matthew 20:22-23; Mark 1:8; Mark 10:38-39; Luke 3:16; John 1:33; John 7:37-39; Acts 1:5; Acts 11:16; Acts 19:2-3)

Three Baptisms for Believers:

1. Into Christ or into His body at repentance and the new birth (pt. 6, above). Called
"one baptism" (Ephes. 4:5), because it is the only baptism that saves the soul and
brings into the body of Christ.

2. Water baptism after one is saved (pt. 5, above and note, Matthew 3:11).

3. Spirit baptism, the enduement of power for service. It can take place before water baptism (Acts 10:44-48) or after it (Acts 1:4-8; Acts 2:1-11; Acts 8:12-21; Acts 19:1-7).

The Holy Spirit is the agent to baptize into Christ and into His body (1 Cor. 12:13); Christ is the agent to baptize in the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11; John 1:31-33); and the minister is the agent to baptize into water (Matthew 28:19).

Acts 2:38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

[Repent, and be baptized]

Peter had the right answer.

[in the name of Jesus Christ]

Being baptized by the authority of Jesus Christ to a Jew meant giving up Judaism and all fellowship of his nation with all his political rights and privileges.  (See notes on Matthew 28:19 above.)

[for]

Greek: eis (GSN-1519), because of remission of sins.  When one repents, which is always required in Scripture before baptism, he is immediately forgiven (1 John 1:9; Romans 10:9-10).  Only then is one a proper candidate for water baptism which is an outward symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:21).  It testifies to the world that one has already repented and been forgiven by faith in Christ (Ephes. 2:8-9; Romans 1:16; Romans 3:24-25; Romans 5:1).  (See Matthew 3:11 above)

[ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost]

Here we have the promise that if and when one repents and his sins are forgiven he can have the Spirit baptism, for the promise is to all men (Acts 2:39; Acts 5:32; Matthew 3:11; John 1:33; John 7:37-39; John 14:12,16-17,26; John 15:26; John 16:7-15; Galatians 3:13-14).

Have ye received?

Acts 19:2  He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

[Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?  ...  Unto what then were ye baptized?]

Every Christian receives the Holy Spirit of sonship (Romans 8:14-16) and has Him in a measure when converted (Romans 8:9), but that is not what Paul referred to. He was asking about the Spirit baptism that John had preached (Acts 19:4 with Matthew 3:11; Luke 3:16; John 1:31-34; Acts 1:4-5; Acts 11:15-17).  This has nothing to do with the new birth by the Spirit (John 3:1-5).  It is the impartation of power for service (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8; Acts 2:38-39; Acts 5:32). See Acts 2:4.  It was the common privilege to receive the "rivers of living waters" or the fullness of the Spirit of John 7:37-39 and all the gifts of the Holy Spirit of 1 Cor. 12:4-11, and still is (Mark 16:17-18; John 14:12).  John's disciples could receive baptism in water, but Christ's disciples the baptism in the Holy Spirit, hence the inquiry of Paul.  This was part of the gospel Apollos learned in Acts 18:26.

[since ye believed]

There is no definite time for this experience in connection with salvation or the new birth (as proved in note,  Acts 10:46 below).  Naturally, these 12 men had been believers and had repented of sins some 26 years before this, but like Apollos, knew only the baptism of John.  They could not have received the Spirit baptism then, or at the time they believed, for this was not yet given because Jesus had not yet been glorified (John 7:37-39; Acts 1:4-8; Acts 2:33-39).  The Spirit baptism is received by faith (Galatians 3:2; Galatians 3:13-14; John 7:37-39).  We have to recognize that one can believe for salvation and be in ignorance of the Spirit baptism, but whatever one gets from God it is when, or after one believes (Mark 11:22-24; Matthew 17:20; Matthew 21:22).  The term "after that ye believed" does not necessarily mean a time element after faith is exercised.  To receive blessings "believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them" any moment after faith is exercised (Mark 11:22-24). The time element is made clear even here, for when they heard they could have the Spirit baptism they believed and Paul laid his hands on them and they immediately received it (Acts 19:2-6).

[We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost]

It is possible that these disciples were not present when John promised the Spirit baptism (Matthew 3:11; Luke 3:13), so we have no right to question the truth of their statement.  Then, too, it could be understood that they had heard but did not understand what was meant, so after 26 years, could have even forgotten that they had heard about it.

They heard them speak with tongues,

and magnify God!

Acts 10:46  For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

Acts 19:2-6  He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. [3] And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. [4] Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. [5] When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. [6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Galatians 3:2  This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Galatians 3:13-14  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: [14] That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Guidelines and follow-ups

after the prayer of Salvation has been made, by the individual!

Prayer of Salvation: commitment, confession, repentance and remittance of sins which “must” (mandatorily, absolutely) be made (only) unto the Lord Jesus Christ and then He (Jesus Christ The Only Begotten Son of God (our advocate = 1st John 1:7, 9, 2:1, 2 & 4:10) then He presents them (our sins, shortcomings, wrongs and mistakes) unto The Heavenly Father (Almighty God) our Holy Creator. At that instant, those (things, sins, infirmities and etc) are put under the Blood of Jesus Christ, never to be seen (looked at or upon) again by the Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ (Exodus 12:7-13; Micah 7:19), whereas the death angel (Jesus Christ Rev. 1:18) will pass over you (because The Sacrificial Blood of Jesus Christ (Blood of the Lamb of God, John 1:29, 36) has been applied to the doorpost of your heart and Soul.

The following is for further clarification and WARNING

(for many in today’s time make the same mistake)!

DO NOT, make the mistake of believing that once a person (you, I or anyone) has repented of our sins and have confessed Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour (Romans 10:9-13) and afterwards “still” choose to sin against God (sin is a transgression against God (1st John 3:4, 8)), then the individual was not truly repentant or sorry for their sins (was un-repentant) and was not truthful unto God in the first place (a person cannot worship God with a lie (John 8:44, 1st John 2:21). Jesus Christ The Only Begotten Son of God is not and will not betray or sin against His Heavenly Father.

Therefore, the person that Had before (prior) repented of their sins (transgressions) and confessed Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour by asking Him into their heart (Romans 10:9-13) and then they sin (transgress against God) all over again, they by doing so have booted (kicked) Jesus Christ out of their heart and life. Jesus Christ The Son of God is not going to sin (transgress) against His Heavenly Father and especially give His approval (agree) for you to do so and will not remain in your heart.

When a person (individual) sins against God the Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ the Only Begotten Son of God or The Holy Ghost, the person (individual) loses favor (fellowship) with God The Heavenly Father

For further remembrance

and WARNING

At one time Lucifer, Satan the devil, that old dragon was formerly an angel of God in Heaven!

Confirming Lucifer was IN HEAVEN!

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

Confirming Lucifer’s name while he was in heaven!

1.  Lucifer, is the name of Satan, (Isaiah 14:12). Lucifer (Hebrew: heylel (HSN-1966)), means brightness; son of the morning (Isaiah 14:12). From halal (HSN-1984), to shine.

Confirming Lucifer was cast out of Heaven and into the earth!

2.  Satan, is the only one in Scripture referred to as having actually fallen from heaven (Isaiah 14:12; Luke 10:18), and the only personal ruler that was and is cast out of heaven with his fallen angels (Rev. 12:7-12). Lucifer, Satan that old devil is now called the god of this world (Satanic, evil world 2nd Corinthians 4:4 )

Rev. 12:13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

Rev. 12:16-17 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. [17] And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Job 1:6-9  Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. [7] And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. [8] And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? [9] Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

With these Scriptures we do so show and confirm:

That, even Lucifer was once already in Heaven and had found favor with Almighty God (in the past), he (Lucifer) was not, eternally secure and did NOT have eternal security! Michael, the Warring Angel (under the Command of Almighty God) cast Lucifer out of Heaven into the earth!

So, the summation that is being declared here is:

Do NOT sin (transgress), blaspheme or use any of The Names of Almighty God or any of The Holy Names of The Lord and Saviour Jesus The Christ or any of The Names of The Holy Ghost in vain, which is Blasphemy against The Almighty (Matthew 12:31-32; John 4:24).

Do NOT cast Jesus Christ The Only Begotten Son of God out of your heart in any way or by any means!

1 John 2:15

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

What I (we) believe does NOT change Almighty God. However, what I (we) believe can allow Almighty God to change me (us)!

Just because you believe Who Almighty God, Jesus Christ The Only Begotten Son of God and The Holy Ghost “is,” is NOT sufficient for Salvation or to inter Heaven, because even the devils believes and know for a fact Who Almighty God and The Son of God is, (Matthew 8:28-29; Mark 5:7).

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe and tremble.

Therefore, Truth must be earnestly spoken, repentance must take place and confession of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour must take place in your heart and inviting Him as King of King’s and Lord of Lord’s of your soul. Therefore by doing so denouncing all that is evil from your soul and asking the Heavenly Father to create within you a clean and pure heart. Amen and amen!

Acts 2:38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Therefore Water Baptism for the Remission of sin is: remittance, release of, omitting by getting rid of, giving them up, removing them, presenting them, revealing them, exposing them by uncovering that which has been hidden, declaration of the fact that you have, dedication unto God, denouncing sin(s)) asking The Lord Jesus Christ to cleanses them by the Blood that He shed on the Cross of Calvary and to present us unto The Heavenly Father thereby washing us white as snow, without spot or wrinkle. Wherewith the Heavenly Father might declare well done thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into  the joy of the Lord!

Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Matthew 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Is your heart clean before God?

Have your sins been washed by the Blood of the Lamb of God?
