CONVICTION AND CONVINCED - PART I
With this lesson, we will
be explaining what CONVICTION and being CONVINCED is, as well as, their
importance by the “Word of God,” (Laws of Moses, Words of the Prophets), in the
New and Old Testaments of the King James 1611 Standard Version of the Holy
Bible.
Certain “words” for
further explanation will be shown, with the use of Strong’s Exhaustive
Concordance of the Holy Bible (KJSV 1611), The Hebrew
and Greek Study Bible and the Torah for proper use and research of their
respective definitions accordingly!
I will also begin by
stating, “It is my job to PERSUADE or CONVINCE you of TRUTH and what
is not TRUTH. However, IT IS also MY JOB to state (proclaim), TRUTH
and NOTHING BUT TRUTH. It is the job of the Holy Ghost (Spirit) to CONVINCE you of TRUTH and what TRUTH is, as well
as what is not TRUTH!”
We, as the Ministers of
the Gospel of Jesus Christ, are to speak TRUTH and NOT lie, for any
reason or purpose, knowingly, or unknowingly. A PROCLAMATION, STATEMENT,
of an UNTRUTH by any means is still a lie. Therefore, heed the
warning of God and DO NOT LIE pertaining to anything for any purpose or
reason.
If you decide to speak an
UNTRUTH, don’t blame God for your decision to lie. God, Jesus Christ, or the
Holy Ghost DID NOT or DOES NOT cause you to lie (state or
proclaim an untruth by any means), that was strictly your decision, “if” you do
so! If you do not know what you proclaim to be TRUTH then do not
speak it, nor proclaim it, by any means (it is better to be thought a
fool then to open your mouth and reveal that you are one). Therefore proclaim ONLY
TRUTH!
1st John
Rev. 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable,
and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and
brimstone: which is the second death.
Matthew 12:36
But I say unto you, That every idle word that
men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
With those qualifications
and warnings of God being stated, you need to know and understand
CONVICTION and what THE CONVICTING POWER OF THE HOLY GHOST IS ABOUT! Further,
we need to know and understand “God’s purpose” for the convicting power of the
Holy Ghost!
THE PURPOSE IS, REVEAL TRUTH
John 14:6 Jesus
saith unto him, I am the
way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 16:13 Howbeit
when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:
for he shall not speak of
himself; but whatsoever he
shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
John 15:26
But when the
Comforter is come, whom I will
send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from
the Father, he shall testify of me:
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth;
It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. [8] And when he is come, he will reprove*the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of
judgment: [9] Of sin, because they believe not on me; [10] Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; [11] Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. [12] I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye
cannot bear them now. [13] Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:
for he shall not speak of
himself; but whatsoever he
shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
[15] He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto
you. [15] All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he
shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
*elegcho, reprove; “Greek 1651,” Strong’s
elegcho, el-eng'-kho; of uncertain affinity; to confute, admonish,
convict, convince, tell a fault, rebuke, reprove
WHAT IS CONVICTION?
CONVICTION: a strong
spiritual impression, quickening or alertness within your soul or spirit (mind)
which causes you to realize or understand, to the point or extent that a
decision is made or must be made. Conviction: also means, a strong persuasion,
belief, certainty of a notion, idea or thought within your Spirit and Soul,
within your mind! “Words and actions” are an expression of thought, regardless
of how they are expressed.
John 6:63
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh
profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are
spirit, and they are life.
EXAMPLE: I have a strong
CONVICTION that the sun “overhead” in the sky is HOT and I am convinced
of that fact, whether I can see it or not! Also, I am CONVINCED that
water is wet, whether I can see it or not! Drinking water helps to quench my
thirst, whether I choose to believe it or not! Breathing air (oxygen) helps me
to remain alive, whether I choose to believe it or not! Further, I have a very
strong determination or CONVICTION, that if I lose enough blood from my body
for a long enough time, I will die (if I haven’t already died). I am totally
convinced and have very deep or strong CONVICTIONS concerning those viewpoints!
I cannot hear or taste the
sun overhead, but I know that it is there and I can feel the heat and warmth of
the sun when I step outside into the daylight. I have a strong conviction that
when I see a tornado or a hurricane coming towards me that I had better run for
safety (if I desire to remain safe)! Also, when I am swimming in a river in the
lower Midwest and see a tangled ball of cottonmouth or water moccasin snakes
during mating season floating or swimming towards me in the river, I have a
strong CONVICTION to get out of the river quickly and not interfere with them,
because they are extremely poisonous!
THE CONVICTING POWER OF
THE HOLY GHOST
This conviction feels the
same (as described above), within your soul and sometimes that strong feeling
(conviction), may be stronger or weaker, all depending on your circumstances at
the time.
Some people recognize the
term “guilt trip,” which is a form of deliberate intimidation, which makes or
causes a person to feel guilty, because of what they said or did not say, which
is CONVICTION! This is also done by a judge when he
says “Well, Mr. or Mrs._________________, you should have known better than to
do that!” A conviction is also what the Judge proclaims when the Court is in
session (either guilty or innocent), pronouncing judgment or redemption
(acquittal), of a person. Some times a police officer would say,
“Just where were you going, to a fire?” which is another attempt of
intimidating or laying a guilt trip on people.
MY FERVENT PRAYER
I went walking at about
James
Sometimes, we question
whether the Lord gets tired of our repeatedly bombarding Him with the same
questions over and over again as the woman (a widow), troubled the Judge in
Luke Chapter 18:
Luke 18:1 And he
spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray,
and not to faint; [2] Saying, There was in a city a judge, which
feared not God, neither regarded man: [3] And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine
adversary. [4] And he would not for a while: but afterward he said
within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; [5] Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. [6] And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge
saith. [7] And shall not
God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? [8] I tell you that he will avenge them
speedily. Nevertheless when
the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
THE LORD’S ANSWER
“I will lead you by the
CONVICTING power of the Holy Spirit (Ghost)!” My question in response to
what He said was: “Lord, how may I recognize CONVICTION?” I immediately was
impressed with the CONVICTION that “I HAD BEEN AWAY FROM THE HOUSE LONG
ENOUGH AND IT WAS TIME TO GO HOME.” I immediately felt the same HOLY
CONVICTION that I did when I asked Jesus Christ to come into my heart and to
forgive me of my sins. That CONVICTION was the same as when I was baptized in
water at Cedar Creek, down by
As I now remember, one time
that I was working on an elevated city water tower, approximately 250 feet or
so in the air, I was tempted to try and fly off of the water tower (this
happened several times). I didn’t recognize back then what kept me from
jumping, off of the water tower, but I sure do understand now, because upon
that thinking (feeling of flying off), I had another impression “DON’T do
it.” and by the grace of God, I now recognize that it was the convicting power of the Holy Ghost that gave me the impression in my
mind, “DON’T DO IT!”
Another time I had placed
a Police Special 38 in my mouth and almost pulled the trigger, when I had that
same impulse/ impression in my mind, “DON’T do it.”
THE LORD REMINDED ME
Time after time that He
was there by the CONVICTING POWER of the Holy Ghost (Spirit), leading me,
guiding me, sparing me, loving me, picking me up and helping me to go on,
teaching me how to recognize Him so I could help others, to let them know that
Jesus Christ is there for them too.
THE LORD REMINDED ME OF ANOTHER TIME
My Wife, daughter and I
lived in Rogers, Arkansas and I was fervently seeking how I may know that it
was the Lord Jesus Christ (Himself) leading me and how to know or understand
for absolute that I could recognize “The Lord’s” guidance without question or
doubt.
It was at this time, as
the sun was brightly shinning overhead and not a cloud in the sky, as I was in
the house (bedroom, as a matter of fact), praying and seeking the council of
the Lord, when all at once, it sounded like a big freight train going down the
street (very noisy). When I looked outside, I saw the neighbors metal 30 gallon
trash containers and the lids blowing down the street because of the sudden
gust or burst of wind (high winds blowing).
As I was observing what was
happening, I was impressed (heard in my mind), a voice that said “go get those
trash containers and lids and put them back on the neighbors carport and secure
them tightly.” I immediately said “no, if I do that, people will say that I am
stealing them,” thinking at the time this might be my own thoughts or thinking
(I definitely argued with what I thought at the time was myself). Then I
immediately heard the VOICE again within my mind, “James
As I read the Scripture I
knew that that the Impression (VOICE), within my mind, had to have been the Lord,
directing (convincing or persuading) me to do that which is good, because it
was a good thing to go get the neighbors metal trash containers and secure
them back on the neighbors carport.
Just as soon as I secured
those metal trash containers back on the neighbors
carport, the hard, fast blowing winds ceased blowing (became quiet) instantly.
I looked around and was very surprised, because of the winds ceasing or
quitting altogether. It became very still and peaceful. Then, I realized what
the Lord was teaching (showing) me. I was definitely amazed!
We will give further
explanation of the above occurrence and how we can or will know (recognize
God’s will pertaining to that particular circumstance), provided that we are
sensitive to the leading or guidance of the Lord. If we are NOT very sensitive,
He knows very well how to get our attention, “every time.”
THE LORD REVEALED TO ME
With His guidance (as
shown above) that GOD is NOT THE AUTHOR OF CONFUSION. 1st Cor.
The Lord must be the
One that creates and presents the circumstance(s) to and for us. We (ourselves) can attempt to create a circumstance,
but it may be our will or desire(s), instead of the Lord’s. Therefore, wait on
the Lord!
Whatever that circumstance
is that the Lord desires (Lord’s will is) for you to do, it will always be
according to James
The Lord will CONVICT your
heart (cause you to feel His leading or guiding, if necessary “guilt”) and He
does this by the CONVICTING power of the HOLY GHOST! As shown above, The Lord
convicted my heart to go get the metal trash containers and do that which is
good when I read James 4:17 as He told me to!
The next thing you will
know when you obey the Lord is, you will feel peaceful, comfort and the joy of the Lord knowing that you have done the right
thing, as the Lord was instructing you. You will certainly have peace of mind about it or pertaining to, that circumstance.
Also, the Lord ALWAYS confirms
“His Word.” Whatever the circumstance that the Lord has presented to
you, The Lord will always confirm His will by His written “Word” The
Logos, and sometimes by the Rama “Word.” The Rama “Word” is that
which is revealed by or from the Heavenly Father. The Heavenly Father revealed
the “Word of Knowledge” to Simon Peter, when Jesus asked Peter who Jesus was
and Simon Peter told Jesus, “Thou are the Christ, The Son of the Living God.”
Matthew
The Lord will confirm
“His will” (the circumstance) with SIGNS FOLLOWING.
Whereas, the results will always bring praise and glory to the Lord and never
yourself!
Mark 16:20
And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord
working with them, and confirming the word
with signs following. Amen.
DO NOT BE AFRAID
OF THE CONVICTION
Because that conviction is
the power of the Holy Ghost (that cannot be seen), but He is there with you, to
convict your heart, guiding you and leading you, and letting you know that
Jesus Christ is there with you and that The Heavenly Father loves you.
If you no longer feel the
CONVICTING POWER OF THE HOLY GHOST (He that makes you feel guilty of your sins
or He that leads you, or pulls you back to safety), then The Heavenly Father,
Almighty God, may have withdrawn His hand from you.
Did you tell the Lord to
go away and to leave you alone? Have you done despite to the Spirit of Grace
when all that He was trying to do was to keep you from harm? Why don’t you talk
to the Lord right now and find out if He (Almighty God) has withdrawn His hand
from you. If He hasn’t withdrawn His hand and you feel His Peace, Comfort and
the Joy of the Lord God of Heaven, then give Him praise and thank Him, for His
mercy endureth forever.
Jesus Christ is that blessed assurance!
