LIFE AND DEATH

(THE POWER OF THE TONGUE)

 Deut. 30:19 (KJV)

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

[choose life] God commands men to choose life by choosing His grace and means of eternal life, thus canceling death and the curses that separate from Him. People can and must make the choice, because God does not force anyone to surrender to Him or remain obedient. All people are free to choose life or death, blessings or curses (Deut. 30:15-20).

[that both thou and thy seed may live]

The fivefold result in choosing God:

1.  Both you and your children may live.

2.  You may love the Lord (Deut. 30:20).

3.  You may obey His voice.

4.  You may cleave to Him.

5.  You may dwell in the land promised to your fathers.

Deut. 30:11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. [12] It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? [13] Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? [14] But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

[not hidden from thee, neither is it far off]

The sevenfold location of God's Word:

1.  It is not hidden from man.

2.  It is not far off.

3.  It is not in heaven (Deut. 30:12).

4.  It is not beyond the seas.

5.  It is near you (Deut. 30:14).

6.  It is in your mouth.

7.  It is in your heart.

God's Word is plainly revealed and recorded in the most simple human language possible, so that no one can rightfully claim that it is too hard to understand because of its hidden meanings.

Deut. 30:15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; [16] In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. [17] But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; [18] I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it. [19] I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

[I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil]

[life and good]

Ten Sets of Things to Choose From

1. Good or evil (Deut. 30:15)

2. Life or death (Deut. 30:15,19)

3. Love or hatred of God (Deut. 30:16)

4. To walk in God's ways or to reject them

5. To keep commandments, statutes, and judgments or to transgress them

6. To cleave to God or turn away from Him (Deut. 30:17,20)

7. To hear God or to refuse to hear Him

8. To worship God or other gods

9. To live long or to perish quickly (Deut. 30:18)

10. Blessing or cursing (Deut. 30:19)

[death and evil]

Five curses for rejecting God:

1. Death and evil (Deut. 30:15,19)

2. Sure destruction (Deut. 30:18)

3. A short life upon earth

4. Death to children (Deut. 30:19)

5. Curses of various kinds

Deut. 30:20 That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

[he is thy life, and the length of thy days] Two things that God is to those who choose Him:

1. Your life (Acts 17:28)

2. Length of your days (Psalm 21:4, Psalm 91:1-12; Proverbs 3:2, 16 2, 16)

Deut. 31:1-3 (KJV)

And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel. [2] And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the Lord hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan. [3] The Lord thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the Lord hath said.

[And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.]

Literally: And Moses continued to address these words unto all Israel.  "And Moses finished speaking all these words to the children of Israel; and said to them, I am this day a hundred and twenty years old," (Deut. 31:1-2).  He did not stop talking to them for a while, and then come before them and began speaking again.  He merely continued the discourse he had had up to this point.

Death and life is in the power of the tongue and that being

In more ways than one!

Proverbs 18:17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him. [18] The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty. [19] A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle. [20] A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

[He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him] He that is first in his answer in a disputed matter may appear to be right, but his opponent comes to cross-examine him and brings the real truth to light.

[seemeth just]

Three examples of answering first:

1. Saul (1 Samuel 15:13, 26)

2. Ziba (2 Samuel 16:1-3)

3. Tertullus (Acts 24:5, 16)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

[Death and life are in the power of the tongue:  and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof] Death and life are greatly determined by the power of the tongue, and he who uses this power rightly shall live because of it (1 Peter 3:10-11).

Five examples of death by the tongue:

1. The ten spies (Numbers 14:36-37)

2. Doeg (1 Samuel 22:9-10)

3. Sennacherib (2 Kings 18:28-35; 2 Kings 19:22-35)

4. The Ammonites (Ezekiel 25:3-7)

5. Annanias and Sapphira (Acts 5:5-10)

Three examples of life by the tongue:

1. Esther (Esther 7-8)

2. Paul (Acts 16:28-34)

3. Believers (Romans 10:9-10; 1 Peter 3:10)

Whosoever Shall Call!

(Death and Life are in the power of the tongue)

Joel 2:32  And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.

Acts 2:21  And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

[whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered] This has always been the case, (with the exception pertaining to Blasphemy of the Holy Ghost Matt. 12:31-32)

When men call upon the Lord for mercy and is qualified according to God’s Standards, God always gives it; there is no such thing as the door of mercy being closed either to the Jews or Gentiles during any period of this age or any other with the exception of Blasphemy of the Holy Ghost (Matt. 12:31-32; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-14; 1 John 1:9).

[in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance] The Jews will be saved as a nation during this time (Isaiah 66:7-8; Zech. 12:10-13:1; Romans 11:25-29).

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

[whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved] Quoted from Joel 2:32; Acts 2:21.  Believing on Jesus Christ and calling upon Him are not the same thing, because the devils also believe and even know for a fact, Who Jesus Christ is (James 2:19).

Calling upon God, Acknowledges Who God is and does not necessarily express their faith IN Him (again James 2:19). Many people which claim to be redeemed, including sinners, but uses God’s Holy Name in vain. If one actually has faith in God he will call upon God in all times and especially when in need of Him and will give Him total Honor and Respect, including when using His Holy Name and WILL fear God. If the individual does NOT fear God (Proverbs 9:10), then that individual does NOT know Him and is NOT a child of God (Matt. 7:16, 20).

[Lord] Paul uses the Greek: Kurios (GSN-2962), for the Hebrew Jehovah (HSN-3068) of Joel 2:32, proving that Jesus of Romans 10:9 is called Jehovah.  Thus there was more than one Jehovah in the Old Testament (Genesis 19:24).  Compare Psalm 110:1 with Matthew 22:44;

Yehovah, from Hebrew 1961 (hayah); (The) self-Existent or Eternal One; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God :- Jehovah, the Lord.  Compare Hebrew 3050 (Yahh), Hebrew 3069 (Yehovih) which is considered by the Jewish to be to Holy to be uttered. Therefore, Sha’ma’ or Adonay is used instead with Sha’ma meaning Hear O-Israel, Our Lord is One Lord.

Deut. 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:

Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

[one] Hebrew: echad (HSN-259), from achad (HSN-258), to unify; to collect; to be united as one; one (Genesis 2:24; Genesis 3:22; Genesis 11:1,6; cp. Matthew 19:5; John 11:52; John 17:21-22; Acts 1:14; Acts 2:1; Acts 4:32; Acts 5:12; 2 Cor. 12:12-13; Galatians 3:28; Ephes. 1:10; Ephes. 2:14-15; Hebrews 2:11).

The Unity of God

Deut. 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:

These words were used at the beginning of the Jewish services both morning and evening (Deut. 5:4-5), and may be termed the short creed of the Jews. In them we find not only the declaration of the unity of God (as contrasted with polytheism), the doctrine of the Trinity, and the true nature of spiritual worship, but also the fact that Jehovah is the absolute and only uncaused God. Literally, "Jehovah our 'Elohiym is a unified Jehovah."  Deut. 6:1-8 was one of four passages which Jews used in the phylacteries, and which they regarded as one of the most filled with truth and instruction. The other passages were Deut. 11:18-21; Exodus 13:2-10, 11-16.

Three Basic Doctrines Expressed:

1. The unity of God—Jehovah our 'Elohiym is a united Jehovah (Sha’ma’).

2. The Trinity of God. There is more than one Jehovah and more than one God as individuals, but they are one Jehovah and one God in unity, thus expressing the truth of three separate and distinct persons, beings, or individuals in the Trinity (1 John 5:7). The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one in this way, not one in individuality. The words "Jehovah" and "God" have a singular and a plural meaning, like the word "sheep." Since there are three separate persons, the only way they can be one is in the sense of unity, as prayed for in John 17:21-23.

3. True worship consists of loving God with all the heart, soul, and might. A wholehearted love for God is the first and great commandment (Matthew 22:36-40).

Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

This much, Lucifer knows and the devils of the Gergesenes and the Gadaranes (Mark 5:1-8; Luke 8:26-28  and certainly believes (James 2:19), because all devils believe and know WHO Jesus Christ is (James 2:19). So, believing alone, is NOT the only requirement for salvation or for entering Heaven..

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well:  the devils also believe, and tremble

Just believing only, without repentance (no remorse for your sins against God), alone, by itself) in God, is no proof that you are justified by faith, because Lucifer, devils, familiar spirits, know and believe in The Most High God and The Lord Jesus Christ without justification.

Many believe and know WHO The Most High God and Jesus Christ The Only Begotten Son of God IS. They just don’t comprehend, understand or see the need for humbling themselves in repentance before God. They have a problem with their own pride and humility.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. [11] For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. [12] For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. [13] For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Being sorry for, being remorseful, of our sins (transgressions) against God is mandatory (is a must), because that is what repentance is all about. Then, when we seek Our Heavenly Father’s forgiveness for our transgressions against Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us, provided, that we have NOT Blasphemed The Holy Ghost (Matt.12:31-32)!

1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. [6] If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: [7] But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. [8] If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

[This then is the message which we have heard of him ...  God is light, and in him is no darkness at all] This is the chief message Christ came to deliver, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.  Neither Moses nor the prophets ever gave the fullness of this message (John 1:16-17).  Christ Himself is the chief manifestation of God's light to men (John 1:1-9; John 3:16-20; John 8:12; John 12:35-36).

[God is light] God is a person and dwells "in the light that no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen (in all His glory) nor can see" (1 Tim. 6:16).  The phrase "God is light" does not constitute the being of God.  It must be understood in the same sense that we understand God is love, God is good, God is a Spirit, God is a consuming fire, and other statements about Him.  In the same sense we understand that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, or the door (John 10:9; John 14:6). These expressions don't do away with the reality and personality of God and Christ.  See John 4:24.

Are you prepared to stand before The Most High God

Jehovah?
