TESTING AND PROVING YOUR FAITH IN GOD!
James 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
dokimion, Greek 1383, Strong’s
dokimion, dok-im'-ee-on; neuter of a presumed derivative of Greek 1382 (dokime); a testing; by implication trustworthiness trial, trying.
Also:
a. to determine the truth or right of (a quarrel or question) by test or battle (sometimes followed by out).
b. to find to be right by test or experience.
If you have very little patience, then you are NOT using your Faith (confidence) in God that you should. With patience in God you must wait on “it,” (whatever “it” is), therefore the “it” is patience “in” God.
[trying of your faith worketh patience]
Trials test your strength (amount of faith or confidence) in God. By faith the man of God stands true in his (man’s) confidence and strength in God, proving that his Strength (confidence) in God is sound and his faith genuine. Tests (trials) work patience and patience works perfection (James 1:3-4, 12; Romans 5:3-5; 1 Peter 1:7).
Romans 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; [4] And patience, experience; and experience, hope: [5] And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
James 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. [4] But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. [5] If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. [6] But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. [7] For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. [8] A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
Six Perfect Things
in James
1. Perfect work of patience (James 1:4)
2. Perfect knowledge (notice Phil. 3:15)
3. Perfect gifts (James 1:17)
4. Perfect law of liberty (James 1:25)
5. Perfect faith by works (James 2:22)
6. Perfect man by restraint (James 3:2)
[that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing]
Two blessings of perfect patience:
1. Perfect - personal perfection in the knowledge of the gospel and the will of God. Greek: teleios (GSN-5046) (notice Phil. 3:15).
2. Entire - personal completeness in all graces and gifts of God. Greek: holokleros (GSN-3648), complete in all parts.
Confidence “In” God
Confidence = a possession of absolute assurance whereby it must be in Almighty God which cannot fail otherwise man, without God will always fail!
Confidence in oneself only, will always bring conceit, self centered, haughty or high-mindedness of self
Hebrews
10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence,
which hath great recompence of reward.
Your confidence is your shield. So, keep it and use it (Ephes. 6:10-18)!
Ephes. 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord,
and in the power of his might. [11] Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may
be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. [12] For we wrestle not
against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against
the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high
places. [13] Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be
able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. [14] Stand
therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate
of righteousness; [15] And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of
peace; [16] Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able
to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. [17] And take the helmet of
salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: [18] Praying
always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto
with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Faith, cannot be seen, because faith
is a spirit, however the evidence of your faith
in God CAN be seen, because it “is” The
Heavenly Father that doeth the works (John 14:10).
John
14:10 Believest
thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak
unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth
the works.
They saw the
boldness (or the evidence of their
faith in Jesus Christ) of Peter and John (Hebrews 11:1)!
(They witnessed the evidence of Peter
and John’s Faith and Confidence in Jesus Christ)
Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter
and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they
marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
[boldness]
Greek: parrhesia (GSN-3954), outspokenness. Translated:
1. Boldness of speech (2 Cor. 7:4)
2. Plainness of speech (2 Cor. 3:12)
3. Freely (Acts 2:29)
4. Openly (Mark 8:32; John 7:4, 13; John 11:54; John 18:20; Col. 2:15)
5. Boldly (John 7:26; Ephes. 6:19; Hebrews 4:16)
6. Boldness (Acts 4:13, 29, 31; Ephes. 3:12; Phil. 1:20; 1 Tim. 3:13; Hebrews 10:19; 1 John 4:17)
7. Confidence (Acts 28:31; Hebrews 3:6; Hebrews 10:35; 1 John 2:28; 1 John 3:21; 1 John 5:14)
[unlearned and ignorant men]
Without the higher education of Judaism; unprofessional men—men of the rank and file of the Jews. They were not destitute of knowledge for they had divine knowledge.
[took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus]
They recognized them to be followers or companions of Jesus of Nazareth.
Let’s test your faith or confidence
in God!
1. What is
your boldness in the Lord showing?
2. What are
you claiming by Faith in the Lord?
3. What are
you attempting to do in the Lord for the glory of God?
4. What is
your testimony producing?
5. Are you
claiming and seeing signs wonders and mighty deeds for the glory of God?
6. Are you
seeing Souls won unto the Lord (people repenting and receiving Jesus Christ as
their Lord and Saviour?
7. Are you
seeing people healed by the power of the Lord?
8. Are you
seeing mighty miracles happen for the glory of God?
What is your evidence?
